Staring of Ms word

  1. click the start button to display start menu.                                           .
  2. Move the mouse to All programs to display the sub-menu.
  3.  Click the Microsoft word to open application window with a bland document. OR
  •      Double click a program shortcut ( located on the desktop)

Title Bar

Title bar display the document name, program name and standard windows control button.

Menu Bar

Each word on menu bar represents a different menu. Each menu contains different commands to work within the program.

Toolbar’s 

Toolbar Contains shortcut buttons for the most popular commands. The standard and Formatting toolbar is located next to the standard toolbar by default.

Document Window

The area in which text is written, edited and formatted is called document window.

Insertion point

The blinking vertical bar | is called the cursor. It indicates the location where typed text will appear in the document.

End of Document Marker

it is a small horizontal line that indicates the end of the document. The end mark is display in Normal view only. 

Rulers

The horizontal ruler can use to set tab stops and indents or to adjust the width of columns. The horizontal or vertical ruler can also use to change the page margins or place items on the page.

Scroll Bars 

Scroll bars are use to move in the document. There are two scroll bars. One is at right side of the screen called vertical Scroll Bar. The second is at the bottom of the screen called horizontal scroll bar. the user can scroll the document by clicking the scroll arrows at either end or by dragging scroll button. The browse button is used to move through a document different ways. The default setting is by page.

view Buttons

It changes the layout view of document to Normal view, Web layout View print layout View or Outline View. 

Help

It is used to provide quick access to Help topics.

Status Bar 

The status bar is a horizontal area at the bottom of the document window. It provides information about the current state of the documents.

Document View of MS Word

There are five document Views in Ms word. Each view of the document displays specific details of the document. Changing to a different view does not affect the contents of document.

Different Views in Ms word are as follows:

Normal View 

Normal view is useful for basic document creation and edition. It shows text and simple formatting. It hides document components such as margin space and page numbers. The normal view takes less memory. The process of typing in his mode in quicker and easier.

Web Layout view

web Layout view displays the document in a format of a webpage. All pages are display as one page. In this view, the user can see backgrounds. The text is wrapped to fit the window. Graphics are display like web pages.

Print Layout View

Print Layout View how to text, graphics and other elements will display on the printed page. It display margin space, and page numbers, objects, headers and footers etc. It take more memory. The working in this view may become slow for every large documents.

Outline View

outline View shows document headings in an indented format to indicate their hierarchical level. It is useful for showing the organization of a document. I t is normally use by expert uses.

Full Screen View

Full screen view displays only the document being use. All the other parts of word window disappear. It only show one close button to close full screen view.

Changing Document View:

The following procedure is use to change document View:

  • click View on menu bar and select the desired View. OR
  • click one of the five buttons at the bottom left of Word Window.
